The Otún Quimbaya Fauna and Flora Sanctuary is located in the department of Risaralda and is 90% made up of Andean forests. It contributes strongly to the conservation of the upper Otún river basin. Its main attraction is its biodiversity, with its howler monkeys, who can be heard up to more than 14 km, its spectacled bears, moorland danta, eagles, deer and numerous birds. Additionally, as the Colombian newspaper El Espectador related in its edition of December 23, 2014: For being an ecotourism example, the Otún Quimbaya Flora and Fauna Sanctuary was chosen among the 100 most sustainable places in the world by the Green Destinations organization.
