A legendary trek through the Sierra Nevada jungle to Teyuna: a stone city older than Machu Picchu. And you do it with the pioneers of the route.

Teyuna —as the indigenous peoples call it— was the heart of the Tayrona civilization around 650 AD, centuries before Machu Picchu. The jungle hid it until 1972, when its 1,200 stone steps and ancient terraces, embraced by the mountain, came back to light.
No roads reach it: the only way in is on foot, several days through tropical rainforest, crystal-clear rivers and the sacred territory of the Kogui, Wiwa, Arhuaco and Kankuamo. Access is regulated and limited to protect the site. That is why reaching Teyuna makes you part of a very small club of travelers.
I want to live it
Jungle, rivers, mud and 1,200 steps. A challenge that becomes the best story of your life.
Share the trail with the indigenous communities that still guard this sacred territory.
A UNESCO Biosphere Reserve: endemic birds, natural pools and the world’s highest coastal mountain range.
No signal, no noise. Just you, the mountain and an unforgettable sense of achievement.
The classic 4-day itinerary. A new landscape every day.
From Santa Marta by 4x4 to El Mamey. After lunch we start hiking through lush nature and take our first dip in the Sierra’s natural pools. Night in a camp with mosquito nets.
We cross the Buritaca river and pass indigenous villages such as Mutanyi, where the guide shares the Kogui and Wiwa worldview. A stage of spectacular scenery to the camp one hour from the Lost City.
The big day: we climb the 1,200 steps to Teyuna’s ancient terraces. A guided visit through the Tayrona sanctuary and a swim in the Pool of Youth. In the afternoon, a cultural exchange with the Wiwa community.
We descend to El Mamey surrounded by new friends. One last home-cooked lunch and back to Santa Marta, knowing we lived something unrepeatable.
The itinerary may change due to weather or conditions beyond the agency’s control. The 5 and 6-day routes cover the same destination at a gentler pace.
The same sacred destination, tailored to your time and pace.

It’s a medium-high difficulty trek: 44 to 46 km round trip with climbs, descents, mud and river crossings. You don’t need to be an athlete, but you should arrive with basic fitness and a good attitude. Our guides adjust the pace to the group.
It can be done year-round. The drier months (December to March) offer firmer trails; in the rainy season the scenery is greener and the rivers fuller. It’s worth it any time of year.
Lightweight quick-dry clothing, a change to sleep in, trekking shoes, sandals for the river, a rain jacket, insect repellent, sunscreen, a flashlight and personal items. We send you the full list when you book.
