La Calera is an excellent destination for a weekend and especially if you go with your family. In this place there are plans and activities for all tastes and family members. So if you do not know where to travel next weekend, but you have that awful desire to leave the city, this is the destination you should know. How to get to La Calera?
 

To get to La Calera just go to the transport terminal and take a direct bus to La Calera. This should take an hour and a half or so and the ticket can cost approximately 7,000 thousand COP. You can also arrive by private car following the route in the GPS.

 

What to do in La Calera?
 

In La Calera you will have many options for sightseeing and activities to get out of the routine. On the one hand, you have the Mirador de La Calera, which is a place worth visiting, because from here you have an impressive view of the city of Bogotá, if you go at night, much better. Then you have the historic center of the municipality in which you can walk and delight in its beautiful colonial-style architecture.

One fact is that the municipality of La Calera is the entrance to the Chingaza National Natural Park; one of the most beautiful and impressive moors and parks in Colombia. If you are a lover of nature and hiking, then this is a place you should not miss. The only thing you have to keep in mind is that although admission is free you must request a permit at least 15 days in advance through the national parks webpage or hire a tour to Chingaza.

And if you are one of those extreme sports lover, do not worry, here in La Calera, there are also different options for you such as canopy, rappel, climbing and ATV rides. Another attraction is the Camino al Meta, an old road that leads to the department of Meta and was used by ancestors to reach this part of the country. The road is found  after passing the paths of San Rafael, La Toma, San José and San Cayetano.

In addition to all this, in La Calera you will find hills, rivers, lagoons and wetlands that offer you an extraordinary contact with nature, and for those lovers of horror stories, very close to La Calera, on the road that leads to Chingaza , there is a small ghost town that was built by Cementos Samper for its workers and now there are only abandoned ruins and buildings. Siberia; which was its name, is visited today by hundreds of people looking to run into some supernatural phenomenon.
