Where to do caving in Colombia?

 

El Peñón Caves

 

They are a series of more 56 caves located in the Province of Vélez in the municipality of El Peñón in Santander . Many of these caves have not yet been explored by man and others of them are up to three kilometers long. All of them, keep unique and amazing secrets that form the most important underground biodiversity discovery in the country, therefore it is a good destination for the practice of caving in Colombia .

 

Cave of the Guacharos

 

Called formally as the Cueva de los Guacharos National Natural Park , it is an important protected area shared by the departments of Huila and Caquetá . The name of the cave is the same as that of some curious and mysterious birds that inhabit the caves and caverns , which can be seen or at least heard on your visit to the park. Part of this cave dates back to the Jurassic Triassic and Middle Cretaceous rocks, so if you think about it you will probably be stepping on the oldest place on earth for the first time in your life.

 

Caja del agua

 

Another great cave where you can go caving in Colombia is in the water box, located in the department of Huila, specifically in the municipality of Paicol, and basically is so called because at the entrance of the cave, water from a waterfall falls over 30 meters, which also forms several natural pools where you can cool off. The Caja del Agua is one of the most visited caves in Colombia every year.

 

Claro River Caverns

 

The caves of the Río Claro Nature Reserve in Antioquia are spectacular. It is a cave carved by the Bornego gorge , which still runs through its floors, inside you can see large spaces with high ceilings where impressive stalactites hang and where the famous Guacharos live. Its walls are sculpted of marble. Throughout the tour you can see the different textures and forms that water and time have been sculpting through thousands of years. This cave is unique for caving in Colombia.

 

Nus Caverns

 

 The Caverns of  Nus , are some of the most amazing and spectacular caves to make caving in Colombia. A complete tour inside lasts three days, during which you will see a wide variety of speleothems, that is, stalagtites, stalagmites, bells, columns and marble formations through several of its rooms. It is more than five meters high and have incredible subterranean landscapes.
