How to get to Taironaka, a paradise at the foot of the Sierra Nevada

Taironaka, formerly one of the many indigenous settlements that the Tayrona culture, they had built in strategic points on the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, considering them sacred sites. Today, Taironaka is a nature reserve where responsible and sustainable tourism, archeology and spiritual connection with Mother Earth are merged to offer an unparalleled experience.

Taironaka is a true hidden paradise at the foothills of the Sierra Nevada, in which to learn more about this great culture, rest, recharge batteries and at the end of your stay you will not want to leave this wonderful place.

 

How to get to Taironaka?

 

To get to Taironaka from Santa Marta, you have to go to the city's Transportation Terminal and take a direct bus to Riohacha, which costs between 25,000 COP and 30,000 COP. Then you must ask the driver  to leave you on the banks of the Don Diego River, before crossing it; Tell him you're going to Taironaka.

 

When you get off the bus, you will see a warning that will indicate where the go is to reach the Taironaka parking lot where the reserve employees will wait for you to cross by boat across the river. On average, we have to walk about 200 meters, that is, about three minutes.

 

What to do in Taironaka?

 

Taironaka is a privileged point  where you will have a lot to do if you are a lover of green tourism. First you must know the museum, which although small, has an important collection of objects, utensils and archaeological remains from the Tayrona culture.

Then it is time for you to get comfortable and admire the terraces that the indigenous built, which are still standing. Then you can have a meal in the delicious restaurant  and then go hiking and explore the place, do bird watching, visit one of the indigenous communities that lives near Taironaka and / or enjoy a refreshing swim in the river Don Diego.

Now, you have the option of staying to sleep in Taironaka, or returning at dusk. Whichever option you choose, the important thing is that you enjoy this place to the fullest with responsibility and taking care of the resources that the land gives us.

 

Nearby you will find the spectacular Tayrona Park, Palomino, Los Flamencos Flora and Fauna Reserve and further north, in La Guajira, Cabo de la Vela and Punta Gallinas.
