How to get to Puerto Nariño?

To get to Puerto Nariño in the Colombian Amazon , you must first arrive to Leticia , because in Puerto Nariño , as you can imagine there are no roads and much less airport, so the journey must be made by boat, which is aboard from Leticia for a cost of 31,000 COP and lasts approximately two hours.

It is recommended that you buy the ticket the day before your trip to Puerto Nariño , especially if you want to go to a specific time because the demand is very high. To enter Puerto Nariño you must pay a tourist tax which costs 10,000 COP.

The first is a fascinating lake that only exists during the rainy season, then dries up for four months. One of the most surprising things about this lake is the strangler tree, which grows on the branch of other trees, and as it grows it looks for other trees to suffocate them and finally to stay with its structure. Another is the nocturnal monkey, a primate that lives in the hollow trunks of the strangler trees and are persecuted because they are the only ones that have the antidote for malaria and yellow fever. And the second plan is to see these beautiful pink mammals that live in the Amazon jungle and are very easy to see. You can pay an excursion to go see them or rent a kayak and go yourself to the area where they are and see them as long as you want.

In Puerto Nariño you can also do some interesting trekkings like the visit to the Wochine Reserve , a huge farm where there are ponds with various animals such as alligators, turtles, fish like the pirarukú, which is in danger of extinction, the Victoria Regia flower and a great ceiba of more than 150 years. Another plan is trekking to Aguas Rojas , a small pond of red waters that takes that color due to the roots of a tree that gives it that characteristic color.

Tips for Puerto Nariño

To visit Puerto Nariño and in general all of the Amazon , remember to bring fresh clothes and raincoats as it is a very humid area, pack only the essentials, get vaccinated against yellow fever and malaria, and carry cash since there are no ATMs there.
