The Tayrona Park will be closed during a period between January and February

The Tayrona Park , famous for being a favorite destination for national and foreign visitors in Santa Marta , as well as being one of the most spectacular natural parks in Colombia and for being home to some of the most beautiful beaches in Santa Marta , Colombia and South America , will be closed for one month from next January 28 until February 28 of the current year.

So if  you have programmed or are planning to go to the Tayrona Park during these dates it is better to reschedule the trip so you do not encounter an unpleasant surprise when you are in Santa Marta.

Why do they close the Tayrona Park?

Perhaps this or other questions cross your mind, but contrary to what you may think the reasons are not arbitrary. The main reason is that the closure will allow the park to rest and consequently the different ecosystems that are part of the protected area can be restored.

The closure of Tayrona Park is done during January and February as a request from the four groups living in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta (remember that Tayrona Park is a sacred area for them), to perform rituals of cleaning, payment, healing and environmental protection throughout the Tayrona Park , as this month; according to the older brothers, it is a propitious time to do their rituals.

But, in addition, during the period, the driest season of the Tayrona Park is recorded, so the closure allows the stress of the different aquifer zones, soils and air to be reduced, recovering and contributing to nature.

This is the fourth time that this closure has been made and the benefits seen in previous years are very significant, since not only the Tayrona Park remain in excellent condition, but species have been spotted walking calmly around their natural habitat, when they were thought to have disappeared as birds, monkeys, reptiles, alligators and felines.
