The Amacayacu National Natural Park is one of the best national parks to connect with nature. The Amacayacu Park is located in the middle of the Amazon rainforest, so it is a world in itself. How to get to the Amacayacu Natural Park?

 

To get to the Amacayacu National Natural Park , your starting point is Leticia , since this natural park is 70 kilometers away from the capital of the Colombian Amazon. Once in Leticia, you should go to the port of the Amazon river and take a boat with some of the companies that offer this service. The trip lasts approximately two hours or an hour and a half if the boat goes fast, and will reach the Matamatá Creek, this point is the first boundary with the park.

 You must take into account the time of transfer within boats, from Leticia to Parque Amacayacu there is a boat service at 8:10 am, and in the afternoon only at 2p.m. In the opposite direction the schedule is at 7:30 a.m, 11:00a.m and 4:30p.m.

 

What to do in the Amacayacu Natural Park?

 

Thanks to the extraordinary natural and cultural diversity of the area where the Amacayacu is located, it is possible to do various activities, such as bird and species sightings; the park has more than 150 species, among which are the pink dolphin, which you can also see in Lake Tarapoto , the jaguar and the tapir, species that are in danger of extinction, but you will also see manatees, several species of reptiles and the lion titi monkey, which is the smallest in the world.

You can also take a quiet canoe trip to Isla de los Monos and Isla Mocagua , home of the lotus flower. If you want to share with indigenous communities in the area, there are several in the park with which, in addition to interacting, they can teach you how to make crafts and you can buy some souveniers.

One of the most incredible activities to do in the Amacayacu Park is to walk about one kilometer until you reach the Dosel Bridge , an extraordinary vegetable bridge that hangs over 30 meters high and that connects with the tree tops, from where you can also have an incredible view of the Amazon. During this activity you will have the cance to see the  Ceiba tree that is over 300 years old, ascend through ropes or stairs to reach the bridge and then descend in rappel.

The entrance to the Amacayacu National Natural Park has no cost. On the other hand if you want to spend the night there, you can rest assured, since the park offers many accommodation options ranging from hammocks to cabins and all inclusive hotels.
