The first well was created in the 70's, because the owners of the land where the wells are located, wanted to take advantage of the water that flowed from the land and dug a deep well to collect water and use it for different farming tasks. Once the water filled the well, a particular coloration was given by the sulfur, selenium and copper, minerals that are present in the desert soil. The owners realized this and opened their home doors so that everyone could visit them.

How to get to Pozos Azules?

Pozos Azules is located three kilometers away from the urban area of Villa de Leyva , on the road that leads to Santa Sofía. This  means you have different options to reach the Blue Wells as varied as they are diverse.

The first step to get to Pozos Azules is that you find yourself in Villa de Leyva , and there you can choose whether to go by car, horse (a plan that is very common too), or even walking. But if you want to get there by public transport, you must go to the transport station in Villa de Leyva and buy a ticket to Santa Sofia which has an approximate value of 4,000 COP and it takes some minutes to arrive, just keep in mind to ask the bus driver to leave you at the entrance to Pozos Azules. Since this a private are there is an entrance fee of 10,000 COP
