Yes there are heritage cemeteries , and yes, there are people who like to visit cemeteries when they go sightseeing in certain cities, although it may sound odd the truth is that tourism trends have no borders and the proof of this is the many European cemeteries positioned as true attractions to be visited.

Meet the Heritage Cemeteries in Colombia

Central Cemetery-Bogotá

The Central Cemetery of Bogotá is one of the largest Colombian Heritage Cemeteries . It is divided into three areas or zones, where balloon A constitutes the oldest sector of the cemetery and the one that has the historical preservation treatment and therefore the one with the greatest touristic assistance. It has a large number of vaults, mausoleums decorated by huge and amazing sculptures. Here are buried many characters of the artistic and political life of the country, and among its walls are kept many stories and legends that will give you goose bumps. Globe B is known as the Cemetery of the Poor and today the Park of Reconciliation was built in one of its sectors . In this cemetery are also the British and German cemeteries.

Cemetery San Pedro Museum-Medellin

 

This cemetery located in Medellin is almost unique in the country and the Patrimonial Cemeteries , since apart of being a cemetery, it falls into the category of a museum, given in 1998 and declared a Cultural Interest of National Matter in 1999. The Cemetery is a museum outdoors, a ritual and artistic space for the living and the dead. It has a collection made up of a set of forms of  the death representation and transformation over time, as well as its diverse uses and social practices. Also, various educational and cultural services such as conferences and the opportunity to take a tour and wait for the sunset while enjoying cultural activities are offered, so visiting this cemetery is another interesting plan to do in Medellín.

Universal Cemetery Park-Barranquilla

In Barranquilla is located another of the Colombian Cemeteries considered a jewel of the city. It is a place that breaks with the daily life of those who visit it and satisfies the expectations of the curious. With its fascinating architecture it rises and fascinates everyone who travels its streets. This cemetery have a great historical importance for the city, since here are buried great thinkers, industrialists, merchants and artists who contributed to the development of the city, the region and the country. There, you will find a group of black cats that curiously live and are the guardians of this place, but, definitely one of the greatest attractions are their white tombs, adorned by statues of angels.
