Bogotá, located in the department of Cundinamarca , is the capital of Colombia, but besides that, it is one of the oldest cities in Colombia and a must stop point for all travelers arriving from abroad; and no, it is not only because the plane arrive here, but because in the midst of all the chaos of Bogotá , there is a wonderful city, with a lot of history that deserves a few days to be discovered, traveled, admired and acclaimed.

1. Tour the Historical Center

This should be the first activity on your list of things to do in Bogotá . The Historic Center, also known as La Candelaria, is a place where you can take a walk and be amazed by the architecture and color of its houses, its cobbled streets, the great buildings and churches, the stories hidden within its walls, the Street art  that has flooded its streets and has turned a typical walk to the center into something similar to a treasure hunt, hunting for the next graffiti that will make you fall in love, and of course the Chorro de Quevedo , a small square that is in the highest part of the center and where the first buildings of the city of Bogotá are located.

 

2. Climb the Cerro de Monserrate

Climbing the Cerro de Monserrate is a hole experience, not only because the place itself is magnificent and from which you can get the best panoramas of the vast city of Bogotá; keep in mind that it is the highest point of the city and will leave you stunned. It is definitely something that you can not stop doing in Bogotá.

5. A walk through the Central Cemetery

It may seem strange to you, but having a brief walk through one of the Colombian Cemeteries is an adrenaline-filled experience, in which apart from that, you can visit some of the largest vaults, mausoleums and sculptures in the city. In addition to thousands of legends and stories from beyond the grave that a guide can tell you as you walk through its walls.

 

6. Know the Plaza de Bolívar

It is a square in La Candelaria, however it deserves a special mention in the activities to do in Bogotá . This is one of the most enormous squares in the city; I would say of the country and this is a place where many important events take place for the life of the country, because here it is located in the Congress of the Republic and the Palace of Justice , in addition to the Primate Cathedral of Colombia ; a large neoclassical church of the eighteenth century. In short, it is a very beautiful place to visit in Bogota, for its importance, for its architecture and for being home to hundreds of pigeons that you can feed and take great pictures.

 

7. Usaquén Neighborhood

It is another of the neighborhoods in Bogota that deserve special attention, and a visit while you are in the city. It is the Usaquén neighborhood that was once a small town with beautiful colonial houses, and as a result of the enormous growth that Bogotá has had, it has been integrated into this area, however, it is a neighborhood that has a lot of charm and surely enjoy during your trip in Bogotá.

 

8. Climb to the top of the Colpatria Tower

The Torre Colpatria , one of the emblematic buildings of Bogota and the country, has a viewpoint at the top that makes you go crazy with the views that can be seen from up here. As in the Cerro de Monserrate you will be stunned.

 

9. Walk through Zona T and end up partying

Zone T , is the pink zone of Bogota , has a very capitalist atmosphere and there are many shopping centers, restaurants, bars and nightclubs, so it can be an excellent plan to have a late walk and end up having a cocktail and partying in Bogota.

 

10. Visit somewhere near Bogotá

Visiting the city of Bogota is not enough, in addition, you have to visit some of the places near Bogota , so you have a complete picture of the wealth and beauty that the department of Cundinamarca has . You can go to Suesca , Sopó , Zipaquirá with its immense Salt Cathedral, or Nemocón with its impressive Salt Mine, the town of Guatavita , with its magical lagoon, where the legend of El Dorado comes from. You can also La Cascada La Chorrera , which holds the title of being the highest in Colombia, and on the other hand is Villa de Leyva ; one of the most beautiful Pueblos Patrimonios de Colombia , and the Rio Claro Natural Reserve , which although they are not in the department of Cundinamarca , it is worth visiting them.
